This is a very good question. Is it safe for a woman to travel on her own in South America? Hopefully some of you will join in and share their experiences.

As you may know, I have traveled 18 months non-stop in South America. I have met many women traveling alone. They were having the time of their life. Some of them joined people while traveling, others explored this fantastic continent by themselves.

The best advice I can give you is to use your common sense. If you get an invitation to go to a tropical island to spend the night by all means go but take somebody with you. Avoid badly lit streets at night. If you feel uncomfortable somewhere do consider taking a taxi to your destination.

I have some great info about women safety on the following pages:
Women travelers in Peru
Women travelers in Brazil

And yes, they love you very much if you're a blonde (that goes for men too). Just enjoy the journey, use your common sense and you'll have the time of your life.

Best wishes,

Mark

Carry a light
Consider avoiding deserted streets after dark; if you can't, then carry a small, heavy flashlight in your hand. Be careful on dark streets even if you have a companion.

Watch the crowd
Some thieves prefer crowded areas - stay alert in places like bus stations and during street celebrations, where you're likely to be jostled -- thieves use these circumstances to grab your stuff.

Consider your undies
Muggers aren't interested in your bra. Sew pockets into it where you can keep some folded cash; if you do get mugged, you're not left helpless. A money belt works, too, but thieves know all about money belts (and would you really use one at home, or on the streets of New York or Chicago?). I also sometimes stash a couple of bigger bills in a sock after dark or anytime in some places, since I can be the world's most careless person about cash in pockets.

These are some of the safe travel tips, which you can apply for your safe journey on an anonymous destination for sure.

# Travel light.
# Pack what you can carry yourself.
# Pack with the expectation that you will acquire more during your journey.
# Pack your own luggage and do not let it out of your sight.
# Do not ask other people to watch your luggage or agree.

yes it is safe if she will going to follow those rules that can bring her a very nice trip, and you know when traveling you should always bring a cellphone to use it when you have a problem and you can also use it to communicate to your relatives while you are traveling

For women, solo travel brings its own set of joys and challenges. It can be an extraordinary experience, to go where you want when you want and meet new people along the way. Many women who have traveled alone describe an incredible sense of freedom and possibility. But there are also the challenges, ranging from loneliness to safety, making solo travel daunting enough that many women never attempt it.

Here are some additional tips
Arrive during the day-Arrive in new cities during the day. Areas around bus and train stations can be scary and/or deserted, and small towns tend to shut down early.

2. Dress appropriately- To avoid attracting unwanted attention, dress as conservatively as the women you see around you. This doesn't necessarily mean donning the traditional dress, as that can sometimes backfire.

These are tips for women that help for travel safety
1) Try sticking and shopping at the safest part of the city.
2)Avoid getting over friendly with strangers.
3)Never stay out late at night especially at strange places.
4)Do not wear expensive jewellery or odd clothes while travelling as it may attract burglars.
5)Try to carry an international cell phone along with you while travelling so that you can contact someone in case of emergency.
6)Prefer wearing money belts and hidden pouches under your clothes to avoid pick pocketing.

Though it is better to travel with less cash, a woman should also limit her visit in ATMs especially if she is alone.
