Hello, whilst reading up on travelling around Peru, I've come across many warnings about travelling by bus - particularly the overnight buses - due to a lack of safety and potential crime. Is there any truth in this? Obviously, for the really long-haul buses it is impossible to avoid taking a bus that travels through the night, however is it worth travelling through the day where possible in order to keep safe rather than trying to save time and money on hostels by taking the night buses? I'd appreciate any help on the matter! Thank you. |

It is very unlikely you'll have safety problems while traveling overnight on buses in Peru. That being said caution is a good way to go about it. Do ask around about bus travel at fellow backpackers in the region you're traveling in. They're the best source for valuable travel information.
