Severe drought in central north Argentina Central north Argentina is suffering under a severe drought. Experts say it's the worst in 100 years. The provinces Chaco, Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Santa Fe and Córdoba, known worldwide for their fertiles lands have been suffering for months. Lack of rain has transformed the farmlands in an arid landscape. It has caused the death of 700.00 livestock, hampered milk production and delayed sowing wheat and sunflower
The loss of cattle and rain deficit is mostly concentrated to the north of Buenos Aires province, Santa Fe, Cordoba, Chaco, La Pampa and Santiago del Estero, in the heart of Argentina’s farmland. Another province experiencing a similar situation is in Patagonia, to the extreme south of the country, Santa Cruz which hasn’t seen a drop of water for months. |
