Default Moving to Brazil !

Hi Meagan,

my name is Gerard and I am from the states originaly. I have been living in Fortaleza since 2000. Moving to another country is a big decision and Brazil is a big country which means you have more choices than you might have in a smaller country.. For example where you choose to live here.

Your question mentions working here and the better places to do that are in the south. Rio, S Paulo and probably anywhere but the northeast where I live.

In the northeast we have a wonderful climate and great beaches....

Going back to the work issue. It is very difficult to make a living here and a lot of us gringos come here full of confidence and ideas and find out that is more difficult than they thought.

I was semi-retired when I got here and have a small income coming in from the US. But having a child the dollar falling and inflation all happening at the same time can make you wish at times you were back in your own country!

I don't know what your financial situation is or how long you would be able to travel around before you seriously needed a job but I would suggest touring the country a bit before you decide where you want to give it a shot.

A lot of foreigners teach English and some open small hotels in tourist destinations.. Others buy and sell properties!

I might ad that making a living is all relative to what your needs are!

The cost of living here is a lot less than Europe and North America...

I hope all this helps!

Good Luck and let us know what you decide and how you are making out from time to time!

Abraço

Gerard
